Get results in days, not monthsResults in days, not monthsTexas is a big state, and the cities in this guide behave like it. 38 grew by 15% or more between 2020 and 2023, while 52 slipped. 26 are at least 40% Spanish-speaking at home. The typical household earns anywhere from $0 to $250,000 or more a year, depending on the city, and that range decides what customers look for and how carefully they compare.
GetPhound does SEO for small businesses. For each Texas city here we combine public Census data, a score for how contested local search is, and research into the place itself. Read your city's guide, or start with the statewide view below.
The big four and everyone else
74 of the 203 cities sit in Dallas-Fort Worth, 38 in Greater Houston, 26 in Austin and Central Texas, and 16 around San Antonio and the Hill Country. The other 49 are scattered from the Rio Grande to the Panhandle.
Suburbs inside a metro share one pool of customers and one set of competitors, which is why the guide ranks each city separately but shows the county around it. Cities far from a metro have fewer rivals but also fewer people searching, so the same plan does different work there.
Regions
Cities are grouped by county into 10 regions. Each row is the median city, which keeps one huge or tiny place from skewing the picture.
| Region | Cities | Typical income | Typical home value | Typical growth since 2020 | Most contested city |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dallas-Fort Worth | 74 | $93,785 | $250,000 or more | +4.6% | University Park |
| Greater Houston | 38 | $81,739 | $239,800 | +0.6% | West University Place |
| Austin and Central Texas | 26 | $86,556 | $250,000 or more | +6.6% | Pflugerville |
| Rio Grande Valley and the Border | 18 | $50,367 | $111,600 | +1.8% | Laredo |
| San Antonio and the Hill Country | 16 | $82,982 | $250,000 or more | +4.9% | Boerne |
| West Texas and the Permian Basin | 11 | $59,254 | $159,300 | +1.1% | Midland |
| East and Northeast Texas | 9 | $57,938 | $161,000 | +1.9% | Longview |

Growth
59 cities grew 8% or more between 2020 and 2023. The fastest: Liberty Hill (+185.5%), Celina (+156.7%), Fulshear (+156.1%), Magnolia (+119.9%), Royse City (+78.4%), Dripping Springs (+76.5%). People who have just moved in are still picking a plumber, a dentist and an attorney, which makes visibility on search and maps worth more than it is in a settled town.
Growth also changes the work. New subdivisions, new streets and new city names show up in searches before directories catch up, and a page for each service and each new area is how a business keeps pace.
Language and border cities
In 26 of these cities at least 40% of residents speak Spanish at home. The top five: Hidalgo (95.3%), Rio Grande City (88.1%), Alton (87.8%), Laredo (87.7%), Socorro (87%). Pages that are written in Spanish, not translated word for word, can reach customers that English pages miss, and they work best when a bilingual person answers the phone and the Google Business Profile lists Spanish as a language.
Small-city Texas
Only 20 of the cities have 150,000 residents or more. Most are small or mid-sized, 26 are majority-renter and 55 have a population that is at least 28% under 18. 56 reach a median household income of $100,000, which says as much about the suburbs of Dallas and Houston as it does about the state at large.
Competition scores
A City Search Competition Index from 0 to 100 summarizes how many rivals chase the same searches in and around each city. It is not a measure of how good the market is. It tells you how much a plan has to do to be seen.

FAQ
Because a plan that works in a Dallas suburb will not fit a border city or an oil-patch town. Each guide shows that city's own numbers and explains what a plan would stress there.
No. One plan can cover many cities, since its pages can be pointed at the places you want to reach. The nearby-cities list on each guide helps you decide which ones.
That depends on the competition and the starting point, and no honest provider can promise a date. Monthly reports show movement as it happens.
Where the numbers and your team support it, yes. We suggest Spanish pages only when someone at the business can handle Spanish calls and messages.
No. Every plan renews month to month.
Yes: Google Ads, Bing Ads and Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram), priced separately. The Texas Google Ads guide covers paid search city by city.
